Apologies, I know this has been a long time coming and I know many people have been waiting for this review but I’ve been so busy working 7 days a week at the moment; but it is here, finally.
For Personal use:
When I first bought the product, the outer packaging makes you feel a little concerned and unfortunately it didn’t dawn on me to take a picture of it because it looks as if it’s been manufactured by a third-party company and not like the real product. However the real packaging is authentic and includes instructions to use and activate the scanmarker.
The Scanmarker device is incredibly light so I’d be careful how you use it and not to drop it anywhere. This particular device is controlled via USB and in hindsight I wish I ordered the ScanMarker Air and here’s why:
Initially the product worked perfectly, however while I was getting used to it the unit would go idle if it wasn’t used for 5-10 minutes and then it would not work. I would have to restart my whole laptop for it to work. Another issue I had was the activation of the product. Whenever I tried to activate the product I kept receiving the same message that the server was offline and had to manually send my details to the company who would activate it for me on their end, which I did.
HOWEVER, in response to the above, when I contacted the company through their Facebook page, they were fantastic and my product was activated straight away. In terms of the connectivity issues, they took my feedback on proactively and said this would be rectified in their next update. Since then, I have had no connectivity issues with the product.
It does take some time to get to grips on how to use the product and it doesn’t recognise many character map typography on text books as text which is unfortunate for me as most of my dissertation texts will be Medieval literature. BUT, I am genuinely in love at how fast this product can work and once you do get the hang of it you’ll wish you knew about it earlier. As I mentioned earlier, I do wish I bought the wireless product rather than the USB but it is FAST and the more you use it, the more it recognises different types of text.
When writing essays and for revision it makes a perfect tool to scan the notes from textbooks and condenses that information you combine into your work. For me, that ability is so important because it reduces time underlining sentences in pencil or scurrying through pages looking for that quote you so desperately need.
Would I recommend this product? YES, but I hope that they continue to expand the unit’s ability to recognise character map text, personally. It is definitely worth the investment and saves so much time with revision notes, essay notes etc.
I personally think businesses would love this. It allows digital signatures to be added to documents much more easily onto contracts etc. All you have to do is scribble your signature on paper and change the setting on the scan marker so that the signature output is technically a picture.
It is also great for scanning large sets of text on documents for contracts, T&C’s and legal documents as it copies word for word.
