Give students immediate access to printed words while maintaining explicit reading instruction. Scanmarker pen readers can complement a school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) or RTI intervention plan, supporting reading access, vocabulary practice, and opportunities to work more independently.
For students needing additional reading practice, educators can use scan-to-read support during small-group literacy lessons, guided vocabulary work, repeated reading, and comprehension checks.
Explore teacher resources →For students receiving intensive intervention, use the reader as a supplemental access tool within an individualized, teacher-led plan. Pair audio support with explicit decoding instruction, progress monitoring, and appropriate accommodations.
Explore classroom strategies →Introduce the device with a clear reading goal, demonstrate scanning and listening, and review learner progress. School teams can request training or evaluate the technology through a pilot.
Explore school pilots →Scanmarker provides assistive reading access; it does not replace evidence-based structured literacy instruction or the school's intervention decisions.
Scanmarker's Closing the Gap literacy case study describes a summer pilot involving 45 rising fourth-grade students in Tennessee. Based on de-identified pre- and post-assessments, the brochure reports that 62% increased an overall achievement level, while 71% of students who remained in the same achievement band increased their raw score.
Evidence context: These are results reported for one pilot, without a control group. They do not establish that the device caused the measured gains or predict results in other schools.
