The Air and Reader scan at up to 10 cm per second with a recognition speed of 3,000 characters per minute. The device reads fonts from 6 to 24 pt at 350 dpi optical resolution. Hold the pen at a 30–60° angle and scan in one smooth, steady motion for best results.

Yes. The Scan to External feature lets you scan text directly into any application — Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail, Google Docs, and more. It works on both Windows and macOS via the desktop app, which you download from inside the web app at app.scanmarker.com.

Yes. You can use Scanmarker software for free with the purchase of the Air, USB, and Reader models.

No, none of the Scanmarker devices need an activation code.

The Air, Reader, and USB devices need a constant connection to a computer or mobile phone (via Bluetooth or USB cable) to scan and listen to text. The MAX, Pro, and PAL models have touchscreen displays, letting users read and listen to text independently without an external device.

Wireless: Yes — go to Settings → Bluetooth, enable it, and select your earbuds from the list.

Wired: The MAX only supports analog Type-C earbuds (such as the ones included in the box). Digital USB-C earbuds with an internal audio chip will not produce any sound.

The MAX has two modes:

Offline (no Wi-Fi needed): Reads aloud and translates in 5 core languages — English, Spanish, Italian, French, and German.

Online (Wi-Fi required): Full translation across 112 languages and voice translation in 120 languages. The MAX connects to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only (5GHz is not supported). At a school or hotel with a login page, use the Captive Portal feature under Settings → Wi-Fi Certification to sign in.

If you forget your 4-digit Exam/PIN Lock code, you can bypass it using a universal code. Press and hold the Settings button for 10 seconds to bring up the unlock screen, then enter the universal code. If you don't have the universal code, contact our support team at contact@scanmarker.com.

Use caution. Applying more than 6 volts will instantly and permanently damage the scanner and void your warranty.

Always verify the charger's output is strictly DC 5V (1A–3A). Avoid cheap or unbranded chargers. Best practice: Charge by plugging directly into a USB port on your computer or a certified USB hub.

Yes. When your MAX is connected to app-max.scanmarker.com, scanned text appears live on your screen inside a fully functional web editor. You can type additional notes, fix formatting, delete sections, or manually edit any captured text directly on the page.

The Scanmarker Stylus is a universal capacitive touchscreen stylus compatible with iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS tablets and touchscreen devices. It's designed for precision digital note-taking, drawing, and early handwriting practice. It works across all brands and devices without pairing or drivers, and is paired with the upcoming ABC Learn to Write companion app.

The ABC Learn to Write app guides students through correct letter formation with step-by-step tracing, phonics audio feedback, and progress tracking. It is designed for early learners, preschool and kindergarten students, and classrooms focused on foundational literacy. The app is planned for both iOS and Android.
